Hi, I'm Laura!
Get to know me better.
Laura Greaves is a multi-award-winning author, journalist, and proud ‘crazy dog lady’ who believes dogs are a gift we do not deserve.
She spent more than 20 years writing for newspapers and magazines in Australia and around the world, during which time she was named Australian Young Journalist of the Year, before following her lifelong dream of writing books (a dream inspired by her dual obsessions with Anne of Green Gables and Murder, She Wrote.)
Laura is the author of the collections Incredible Dog Journeys, Dogs with Jobs, The Rescuers, Miracle Mutts, Extraordinary Old Dogs, A Dog’s Best Friend, Amazing Aussie Dogs, and the children’s book Amazing Dogs with Amazing Jobs. She has also written three romantic comedy novels: Be My Baby, The Ex-Factor, and Two Weeks ‘til Christmas (each of which features an extensive supporting cast of cheeky canines).
Laura’s books are published in Australia and New Zealand by Penguin Random House. Several of her books have also been published in countries including the United Kingdom, Mexico, Russia, Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic. She has twice won the Dog Writers’ Association of America’s prestigious Rio Award, which recognises the best book about a dog that has impacted a human’s life in a profoundly positive way.
When she’s not writing, you’ll most likely find Laura at her day job in communications for an assistance dogs charity, running (she has completed four marathons), reading (romance is her favourite), watching F1 racing (Lewis Hamilton 4EVAAAAA), or taking a nap. She is also making (painfully slow) progress on her PhD about historical true crime writing, and she is a 2023 Churchill Fellow; unsurprisingly, her Fellowship project also involves dogs!
Laura lives in the beautiful Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, with her husband and their three kids. She has two dogs – Coco the Kelpie-Border Collie mix and Ferdinand (Ferdy) the Flatcoated Retriever-giant doofus mix – and one guinea pig, Countess Raphaella.
